Countries where we work

For more than 14 years our Democratization and Development Abroad department has been contributing to international development. Why do we do this?

We remember the past. We do not forget that just recently Slovakia underwent a transformation process on its way to democracy, and it was not left alone to deal with it. On the contrary, Slovakia got a broad support to develop democratic mechanisms and strengthen the capacities and the role of Slovak civic sector from abroad. We value this experience, we see its positive results, and in our turn we feel the need to support those societies which have similar struggles as experienced ones.  We publish books and organize public events to keep people aware of the global challenges and opportunities. We support a more pro-active Slovak and EU foreign policy, based on support for civil society, the spread of democracy, and respect for human rights. We are a founding member of the Slovak NGDO Platform and a member of CONCORD, the World Movement for Democracy, the network of European Foundations for Democracy, and a member of Russia Civil Society Forum. Currently we have 3 strategic programming areas: Development Education, Public Policy and Cross-Sectoral cooperation. Within these programs we work in Kenya, Belarus, Georgia, Albania, Kosovo and Moldova. Our past destinations also include Tunisia, Egypt, Ukraine, Iraq, Cuba. In order to learn more about the programs and what exactly we do please visit programs’ pages.
