Through research, we try to deepen our knowledge of the needs of nongovernmental organizations (NGOs). The results of surveys that we do are considered the first step in creating new instruments of institutional and program assistance for NGOs. We hope they develop into a form of consulting for organizations that need it. This allows for the creation and exchange of new professional knowledge and experience, creates an opportunity to propose innovative solutions, and contributes to the development of mutual advantageous partnerships between NGOs and other interested parties.
NGO Sustainability Index
Since 1988, an international organisation USAID has prepared with local partners The NGO Sustainability Index in Europe and Euroasia. This is an instrument that aims to sum up the total power and vitality of NGOs in the region from the Baltic region to Central Europe. The Index is created on the basis of experts’ evaluations of NGOs representants[NOT SURE WHAT THIS MEANS?], operating in each country. The Index is an important indicator for USAID missions, international donors, and service organisations. At the same time, it serves as a comparative indicator of NGOsīdevelopment from country to country. During the last three years, the Index in Slovakia has been prepared by us together with experts form nongovernmental sector. The results of the 2005 in English version are available on USAID’s homepage or here.
