volunteers in action
The most common form of corporate volunteerism is direct common assistance of a firm´s employees in the field. Together with Slovak Scouting and TANAP (High Tatras National Park) and employees of five members of the Business Leaders Forum (ZSE, ST, HP, Provident Financial, and T-Mobile) assisted to address the consequences of a wind-spout that occurred in the High Tatras in 2004. VSE employees focused on direct assistance in their own region, where they have built an educational footpath in Smolnicka osada. Volunteers from Orange Slovakia helped by retrieving ruins of the Plavecký hrad castle. And employees of Dell helped Peace for Animals to adjust and modify stalls for abandoned animals. Philip Morris Slovakia organised a big volunteer project named Green City together with Bratislava Magistrate.
the help for people in need
The crisis center Slniečko (Sun) for is for abused children and mothers who are homeless. Volunteers from Slovak Telekom and Citigroup helped enhance this center as well as organise a Slovakia-wide collection wto support abused children. Volunteers from Philip Morris and other firms also helped the Union of Blind People in Slovakia by reading and recording fairy tales for children to listen to. Employees of Tesco Stores organised activities at children's homes in Levice and Žitavice. Dell and VSE encourage their employees to give blood or contribute to collections by the League against Cancer.
employees grant programs
Orange, T-Mobile, and Skanska support employee volunteer activities through direct financial assistance of their projects to employees’ grant programs in communities where employees live. ZSE (Western Slovak) power engineering encourages employee donations through a matching fund - if an employee gives a part of his or her salary to a helpful cause, the firm triples the donation.
education
HP employees, together with the organisation Junior Achievement Slovakia, assisted within a 12-week training „Global ethic program“ to encourage students to consider their perceptions of ethical values. Managers from Tesco Stores and Citigroup shared practical experiences about CSR to students.
