corporate responsibility as a tool of long-term sustainability of macedonian communities

In December 2008 the Pontis Foundation with its partner organization Center for Institutional Development – CIRa start implementation of a 20-month long project in Macedonia. The main goal is to assist Macedonian civil society to solve key problems by providing tools for dialogue of NGOs, companies, corporate associations, local governments – using the Slovak Corporate Responsibility (CR) know how.

The project aims at increasing corporate engagement in looking at addressing the problems of Macedonian communities. It will be done through transferring Slovak know how about Corporate Responsibility and Corporate Philanthropy.

One of the project’s results will be establishment of a Business Leaders Forum association in Macedonia, according to the Business Leaders Forum model, created in Slovakia at the beginning of 2004. The association will serve as a platform of Macedonian societies for networking, education and realization of common events in the domain of corporate social responsibility.

Within the project, the Pontis Foundation will be cooperating and strengthening its partnership with the Macedonian organization CIRa. The Pontis Foundation will provide assistance to CIRa to develop the award for the best corporate philanthropy activities as well as strengthen their corporate fund programs.

The project activities includes: study trips to Slovakia, trainings, seminars, research about corporate philanthropy in Macedonia, on-going consultation, CSR conference in Macedonia and organizing the award for the best philanthropic company in Macedonia.

The project’s plan is to involve in the events and various activities at least 300 representatives of Macedonian business and to ensure support for at least 20 Macedonian nongovernmental organizations by corporate means.

The project is supported by Slovak Aid.
