analysis of corporate volunteerism in serbia

December 10, 2009 – The Pontis Foundation’s partner organisation Smart Kolektiv from Serbia prepared an analysis on the state of corporate volunteerism in Serbia. The goals of this analysis were: to identify the companies which organise and support their employees in corporate volunteering activities, present basic information about the types of the activities, fields of volunteering and ways how companies organise volunteering activities.

The analysis has shown that corporate volunteering in Serbia continues to grow. While in 2007 corporate volunteering was incorporated in the activity of its employees in only two Serbian companies, in 2009 the number has risen to 25. The analysis also shows that the most attractive type of corporate volunteering for Serbian companies and their employees are manual activities, whereby they are actively interested in mentoring as a kind of corporate volunteering, and in terms of themes, here they indicate their interest in ecology, children, orphans, elderly and youth.

It is worth mentioning that the majority of companies have neither long-term volunteer programs nor policies and procedures governing corporate volunteering. Furthermore, most of the firms believe that volunteering has a positive impact on their employees; however, they do not see the close connection to their volunteering activity and its impact on their business and image of their firm.
