December 11, 2009 - Paolo Ruzzini, chairman of the board of directors and General Director of Slovenské elektrárne became the new president of the Business Leaders Forum (BLF). At their annual meeting in Bratislava, members of the BLF also agreed to commit the year 2010 to the topic of climate change, CO2 emissions reporting and to increasing awareness on this topic among the general public. Johnson Controls joined in the BLF membership.
Paolo Ruzzini has been the head of Slovenské elektrárne since their inclusion into the Enel group in 2006. He is also regional manager of plants for Central and Eastern Europe. He entered the Enel group in 2003 as head of the company’s Organization and HR. He was also a board member of Enel Distribuzione SpA and Enel Produzione SpA.
The new BLF president’s aim is to find new forms of cooperation and synergy between members of BLF that could be beneficial for the whole society. He would like to enforce corporate “green” responsibility, emphasizing the necessity to limit production of greenhouse gases, increase energetic effectiveness, invest into innovations and to make use of reusable resources.
Johnson Controls became the new, 22nd member of BLF. Johnson Controls is one of the world’s leading companies in the field of automobile industry supplies (automobile interiors, batteries) and buildings’ effectiveness. You can learn more about their corporate social responsibility activities in Slovakia and abroad on the BLF webpage.
The leading topic of the annual meeting of BLF members was climate change and its possible implications for Slovakia. General directors of the BLF member companies discussed the possible impact climate change could have on Slovakia, its citizens and companies. Milan Lapin – an internationally respected climatologist was a special guest at the meeting. He believes that it is cheaper to implement solutions to moderating climate change than to remove its consequences. The guests discussed what precautions to take. An expertise group, which the forum wants to set up in January 2010, will elaborate more on these proposals.
A part of the meeting also concentrated on evaluating last year’s commitment of the forum to measure and publish information on the impact of business activities on communities and on the environment according to international standards – best according to the Global Reporting Initiative. Seven members of the BLF fulfilled this commitment in 2009.
The new BLF president received a diploma from electrotechnics at the Technical University in Milano. Before he came to Enel, he worked for the Olivetti Group and was Manager of Planning and Organization at their foreign branches. In the years 1992-1995 he became Director of Human Resources at Olivetti and in 1995 became Operation Manager of Olivetti Solutions (Olsy). Since 1996 until the year 1998 he was Solutions Managing Director for Wang Laboratories Italy. In the period of 1999 – 2003 he held the position of General Director of Getronics Solutions Italia SpA.
