13 future entrepreneurs have participated at the already third course for the deaf

February 10, 2010 - The Pontis Foundation in cooperation with Foundation Integra and the Slovak Association of the Deaf organized, for the third time already, a course for the deaf How to start a business. 13 deaf participants from the whole of Slovakia learned the basics of marketing, accounting and communication with clients in Nový Smokovec. Many of them have encountered these issues for the first time. Therefore, the role of the interpreters, who translated the whole course into sign language, was essential.

“I am very pleased by the fact that it is already the third year we are organizing a course for the deaf. I consider it as a huge responsibility, because we offer people an opportunity that can immensely change their life and the life of their families. I believe it will be a positive change and that this training and later the contribution for their business will help these people make their business dreams come true. All participants of the course take this opportunity very seriously and I wish they will be able to maintain their courage, internal strength and resolution to face communication barriers” says Oµga Auchenbach, program coordinator of the Pontis Foundation.

This year eleven men and two women have shown ambition to start a business in areas such as masonry, carpentry, photography and provision of computer services. If they vindicate their business plan in front of a committee, they will be eligible to apply for a contribution for their business from the T-mobile fund at the Pontis Foundation that can be up to 3 320 EUR. When completing an accredited course they will also become eligible to apply for a contribution towards creating a protected workplace from the Labour Office.

The course is a part of the grant giving program called Looking for another meaning – FOR BUSINESS. Thanks to this program, to this day twenty deaf people have managed to self-employ themselves.
