November 16, 2011 - The students from Žilina have designed a garage with solar collectors and subsequently won. Two students from Electro-technical Vocational School worked out and electric-drive car model and a garage with solar panels and were thus able to win 7,000 Eur for the school.
Among the participants in Kia Innovation Award were high school students with their innovative projects in the field of security and environment. Pontis Foundation announced the competition in collaboration with Kia, a Korean Car Manufacturer. The second year of the competition gave the high school students in Žilina and Trenčín region the opportunity to win a grant of an amount of 7,000 Euros. The winning project focused on the ways of getting the electric energy for cars. “The aim of the project was to reduce the negative impact of fumes on the environment. To achieve that, the students invented an ecological way of generating an electric power for cars,” explained Norbert Maur, Program Coordinator at Pontis Foundation.
One of the most important aspects when picking the winner was the usefulness of the project. “If students are really interested in the topic, they can read a lot of study materials. Consequently, they often know more about the subject than their teachers. We could see that even this time,” stated Tomáš Drugda from Kia Motors Slovakia. The seven best projects proceeded in the competition to the second round, which took place on Wednesday, 15 November 2011. The students presented their projects at conference in the Training Center of Kia Motors Slovakia in Gbeľany.
