Our ambition is to support the long-term financial sustainability of nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) in Slovakia, contribute to their institutional strengthening, and participate in solving questions regarding their organizational development.
Nongovernmental organizations have a significant role to play in a democratic society. They bring positive changes and enable citizens to take part in the management of public issues. But they also struggle with a lack of financial resources for project implementation or for their day-to-day operations. If they lack these resources in the long run, they must curtail or end their public interest activities, shift to other activities that don’t match their original goals, or lose their economic or political independence.
We think these kinds of unpleasant consequences can be minimized by effectively combining financial and nonfinancial assistance, widening the circle of those interested in activities in the nongovernmental sector, or supporting institutional development. We try to do this in all our activities, and we offer several kinds of assistance to NGOs, including:
◊ bridge and self-financing loans
◊ grants for support of institutional and organizational development
◊ grants to cover operating expenses
◊ professional assistance and consultation in the areas of administration, financial management, and internal and external communication
◊ research and publication of research results
◊ awareness building among corporations and the public about the mission, purpose, and activities of the nongovernmental sector
